The boat pilot is required to hold a U.S. Coast Guard license with all radar and radio license endorsements. The boat pilot will be responsible for operating a towboat to position and move barges along the Ohio and tributaries rivers as well as other miscellaneous work that needs to be performed. The boat pilot will also be responsible for supervising the deckhands that are working with him during the operation of the towboat. The boat pilot will be responsible for the completion of the necessary paperwork that is required as well as communicating any maintenance that needs completed. This person will also be expected to follow all safety regulations set forth by SMW. They will also be responsible for maintaining a clean work environment. This includes the tow boat and all other related equipment. The boat pilot will be working in varying weather conditions, in dust and noisy areas.
Substantial walking, bending, stooping, lifting or working in awkward or strained positions. Some hazard involved due to working in and around machinery. Boat pilot will be asked to work overtime as well as some weekends. Pre-‐employment physical required.
