Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston Marine Safety Information Bulletin 08-24 I-10 / San Jacinto River Bridge Construction

The Captain of the Port (COTP) is advising mariners that Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and its contractor will be replacing the eastside fendering system underneath the I-10 / San Jacinto River Bridge within the San Jacinto River. This ongoing work includes installation of a new fender system under the bridge on the westside of navigable channel. The construction on the eastside of navigable channel is expected to take an additional 3 to 4 months. The overall project is expected to be completed in September 2024.

Starting Monday, April 22, and for the next 3 to 4 months, TXDOT and its contractor will be replacing the eastside fendering system underneath the I-10 bridge that crosses over the San Jacinto River, just north of Southwest Shipyard. During the repairs, TXDOT and its contractor will have a barge anchored in place blocking the eastside of the navigable channel underneath the bridge.

Boat traffic under the I-10 / San Jacinto River Bridge is reduced to a single-wide barge traffic pattern on the westside of the navigable channel, with wake and surge considerations for the safety of the workers and vessels transiting the area. Mariners are asked to provide notification to Bo-Mac personnel via radio, at least 20 minutes before transiting under the bridge to allow for safe transit under I-10 Bridge.

Bo-Mac personnel can be reached via radio on channel 69. For additional questions or concerns, please contact the Construction Manager on scene, Dave Tanner, at (409)-299-2042 or the secondary contact, Project Manager Nathan Davis, at (409)-937-5186.

The U.S. Coast Guard will continue working with TXDOT and its contractor as they effect repairs of the bridge that affect the navigational safety of the waterway. This MSIB 08-24 supersedes MSIB 03-24. Additional guidance regarding this bridge work may be issued in the form of further Marine Safety Information Bulletins, Broadcast Notice to Mariners, or other forms as necessary.

Please contact Sector Houston-Galveston WWM Division via houstonwwm@uscg.mil or the Command Center at (866) 539-8114 if you have any questions or comments.
