Commerce and DHS Release Supply Chain Report in Response to Executive Order 14017

On February 24, 2021, President Biden signed Executive Order (E.O.) 14017 on Securing America’s Supply Chains to enhance the security of our Nation’s supply chains and protect the critical infrastructure underlying our nation’s economy and way of life. The E.O. specifically directed the Department of Commerce (DOC) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to produce a one-year report on the supply chains for critical sectors and subsectors of the U.S. information and communications (ICT) industry.

In response, today Commerce and DHS released the one-year report, Assessment of the Critical Supply Chains Supporting the U.S. Information and Communications Technology Industry. The report defines the critical sectors and subsectors supporting the ICT industry, evaluates the current supply chain conditions, identifies key risks that threaten to disrupt those supply chains, and proposes eight recommendations to mitigate risk and strengthen supply chain resiliency.

With the scale of supply chain risks faced by industry, foreign governments, and other partners, a collective defense approach is necessary to enhance supply chain resilience.
