Brennan Marine in Paducah, KY is hiring for full-time deckhands.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for working under the guidance of the BMI Harbor Operating procedures manual and your supervisor
  • Responsible for the following of all company policy such as the Periodic Safety Meeting Policy and Issues, schedules and any other issues
  • Deckhands shall know and understand all applicable O.S.H.A. and State regulations and guidelines that pertain to your work, work area and work environment
  • Deckhands shall know the requirements for confined spaces entry, Shipyard Competent Person criteria and requirements, and all other safety rules and regulations as outlined in the weekly safety training meetings
  • Deckhands shall only operate machinery and equipment that they are trained to operate
  • Responsible for vessel housekeeping
  • Deckhands are responsible for general vessel maintenance
  • Required to assist master by communicating the vessel distances either by VHF radio and/or by hand signals. All deckhands are required to know the hand signals found in the deckhands manual
  • Responsible for properly placing barge running lights on the head of the tow during all night time operations and to continually monitor them for proper operation
  • Deckhands are responsible for properly placing barge fleet lights on all mooring fleets. These lights are to be inspected daily for proper functioning and charging needs. The deckhands are responsible for charging and maintenance of all mooring lights
  • Deckhands are responsible for inspecting all barges upon arrival into port
  • Responsible for pumping excess water or water accumulating from leaks out of the barges
  • Cleanliness of all barges in tow of the vessel
  • Tying off barges at the required dock or fleeting site with 1-1/2” leaving line, 2” lock line or 1-1/8” wire rope
  • Deckhands are responsible for inspecting and repairing or discarding lines and wires used to moor vessels
  • Deckhands are responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisors
  • Participate in and lead internal AWO RCP vessel and management audits
  • Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to swim
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Willing to learn from others
  • Able to read, understand and communicate in English
  • Able to use basic math
  • Willing to follow directions
  • Able to make appropriate decisions
  • Willing to adhere to rules and regulations
  • A team player
  • Stable under pressure
  • Ability to successfully pass a physical and drug and alcohol screen
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Prior history of completing heavy manual labor
  • Be able to work with a supervisor and fellow workers to complete heavy physical labor
