Dredging Operations: Atchafalaya Bay & Bar Channel

Reference Navigation Bulletin No. 23-02, dated 5 January 2023, stating that the U.S. Government Contract Cutterhead Dredge ROBERT WHITE will be working between Mile 146.0 and Mile 159.0 of the Atchafalaya Bay and Bar Channel until approximately 30 March 2023, and dredged material will be deposited through a floating pipeline onto Bird Island, at approximately Mile 157, on the west side of the Atchafalaya River.
MARINERS ARE ADVISED THAT THE DREDGING OPERATIONS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH 30 APRIL 2023.
UPON COMPLETION OF THE BAR CHANNEL, THE DREDGE WILL WORK IN THE ATCHAFALAYA BAY AND CREWBOAT CUT BETWEEN MILE 135 AND MILE 151 OF THE ATCHAFALAYA RIVER. DREDGED MATERIAL WILL BE DEPOSITED THROUGH A FLOATING PIPELINE ONTO DISPOSAL AREAS LOCATED ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE ATCHAFALAYA RIVER.
The dredge will work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and will be monitoring VHF Marine Channels 13 and 16. Besides dredging equipment, there are numerous work and support vessels associated with this dredging operation.
Mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made.
