Dredging Operations: SMITHLAND LOCKS AND DAM, OHIO RIVER MILE 918.4

Notice is given that “Amherst” will be performing navigation channel maintenance dredging for the Louisville District US Army Corps of Engineers at Ohio River Mile 918.4, Smithland Locks and Dam Upper Approach.

The schedule will be as follows:
24-28 June 2023: 1200’ Land Chamber Closure while dredging. All traffic will use the 1200’ River Chamber. 29 Jun -03 Jul 2023: 1200’ River Chamber Closure while dredging. All traffic will use 1200’ Land Chamber.

Hours of operation will be between 0600 – 1800 CT each day. The closures will only occur during hours of operation. The floating plant will be moored in the 1200’ Land Chamber Upper Approach after-hours so only pleasure craft will be able to use the 1200’ Land Chamber outside of dredging hours of operation.

The contractor’s floating plant will consist of a crane barge, two dump scow barges, and the M/V George W. Jones and M/V Lucedale. The M/V George W. Jones and M/V Lucedale will be monitoring marine channel 13. Vessel operators should exercise caution when transiting the area.
