The Department of Transportation is currently seeking applications for economist(s) in Washington, DC and Cambridge, Massachusetts. As an Economist and analyst within a DOT Operating Administration (OA) or DOT headquarters (HQ), you will be responsible for conducting and managing economic and financial analyses required for the assigned studies and research projects.

You will serve as an economic expert representing the agency on Federal, and interagency task forces, collaborating with other DOT economists and providing advice and technical assistance for project planning and analysis.

 

As an Economist, you will:

  • Participate on project teams by gathering and analyzing data using a variety of specified analytical techniques including literature reviews. Conduct economic research, analyzes and interprets economic data, develop estimates of benefits and report the results of findings under the guidance of a senior Economist.

  • Conduct surveys to obtain economic data, relate previously submitted data to current conditions, and determine the relations of pertinent economic factors for well-defined projects.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling activities with program manager’s guidance; execute tasks as planned; monitor progress, resolve basic problems and keep program manager informed of project status.
  • Communicate and present economic concepts and quantitative data, orally and in writing, especially to non-technical audiences and work collaboratively with other economists and with senior level executives.
  • Serve on interdisciplinary teams as a member.

The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in collecting and analyzing economic information to determine the feasibility and cost effectiveness of agency transportation and related projects and the use of spreadsheets and software packages.
