The primary focus of our inland ports and terminals is to grow our economies by providing an access point for multimodal transport (river, road and rail) not just a means to ease coastal congestion. Many of our exports are generated along the river system and are combined with a larger shipment at a coastal port (grain, petroleum, coal and recycled products like steel). Imports arrive at coastal/blue water ports can then travel by river barge, rail carrier or truck.
Topics on meeting agenda include:
- Funding opportunities (current and upcoming);
- Legislative corner (House or Senate hearings, legislation, etc.);
- Recent filings or judgements in the courts;
- Upcoming railroad related meetings, conferences;
- Articles of Interest.
Economic development has been the catalyst for river port authorities for quite some time and for the most part, ports are created for the main purpose of driving economic development through the advantage of infrastructure such as river, rail and highways. The current trends being seen today are that of stronger regional collaboration for freight transportation and the building of sound partnerships with service providers through all aspects of the distribution supply chain.
IRPT is honored to offer our Members resources, such as the Railroad Committee to promote collaboration, increase business opportunities and encourage cooperation between all freight transportation users.
If you have questions about the committee, participation or more, please email Aimee Andres at aandres@irpt.net.
