From the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee:

T&I – Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation will convene a hearing on “Short Sea Shipping: Rebuilding America’s Maritime Industry” on June 19th.

Witnesses:

  • Admiral Buzby (MARAD Administrator)
  • Larry Willis, Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO
  • Jim Weakly, Lake Carriers' Association
  • Jon Nass, CEO of the Maine Port Authority

You can watch the hearing live at https://transportation.house.gov/

Members, please note:

Short sea shipping is also known as America’s marine highways. In testimony given in the last hearing in 2007, “The full scope of America’s Marine Highway – a system that includes not only our coastal waters, but our inland waterway system and the Great Lakes, is enormous – and, if properly utilized and integrated, can help us expand our way out of the crises before us.”

Of the 16 subcommittee members on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, only one represents the 38 States that include the inland waterways system, Congressman Graves (MO).

As you can see from the witness list, inland waterways are once again, left out of the conversation.
