Graduate Engineer- Public Works (Chattanooga, TN)

SummaryAs a Graduate Engineer the prospective employee serves as an engineer in training on public works projects with the responsibility of performing multiple tasks which will provide familiarity with the programs, staff, and operating procedures of LJA.  Such tasks included but are not limited to design calculations, preparation of CAD exhibits/plans, supporting engineers with reports, and assisting in the preparation of specifications.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provides entry level engineering work under close supervision of a license engineer or project manager.
  • Applies prescribed methods to complete limited and specific portions of the broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Use design tools i.e. AutoCad Civil 3D, GIS, REVIT for design of project elements.
  • Conducts site visits at wastewater and water treatment facilities and is familiar with treatment processes and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors so understanding of instructions are clear and concise.
  • Able to work in a team environment to contribute to the success of projects, (ahead of schedule and under budget).

Required Education/Licenses:

  • Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering is required.
  • Must have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and obtained EIT certificate.

Required Experience:

  • Prior Civil engineering or CAD internship preferred
  • Strong communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Sit for extended periods of time working on computer.

Spend time in the field gathering information and assessing project requirements.

Organizational Relationships

This position reports to a Project Manager or Engineering Group Leader
