Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Port Manatee, FL)

Federal Marine Terminals is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Port Manatee, FL.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING | THE ROLE

Repairs/Maintenance

  • Repairs and maintains all equipment, such as forklifts, trucks and trailers, using handtools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools: Diagnoses trouble, disassembles engines, and examines parts for defects and excessive wear
  • Perform maintenance of warehouses (garage doors/lighting/etc.) as required
  • May weld and cut parts, using arc-welding and flame cutting equipment
  • Make repairs to cargo-handling equipment, attachments and associated gear
  • Prioritizes with the Maintenance Manager, Superintendents vessel placements, labor orders, equipment needs, heavy lift requirements
  • Fill out Repair Logs on all work for recording in CMS.
  • Cleans shop, storage area and parts room
  • Inventory & purchase tires/fuel/gear/spare parts/tools

Diagnostic:

  • Diagnoses problems and repairs brakes, transmissions, clutches, hydraulic systems, valves, pumps and electrical problems
  • Diagnoses problems and repairs rolling stock such as stevedoring trailers

Safety:

  • Assist Maintenance Manager in maintaining material safety data sheets on products utilized in maintenance shop.
  • Follow and enforce safety rules, OSHA regulations and administrative and operational policies and procedures.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings in place of the Maintenance/Fleet Manager as required
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment

WHAT YOU BRING | THE PERSON

  • Proven experience as Mechanic
  • Excellent knowledge of hydraulic and electrical engines and other systems and their components
  • Able to work overtime including evenings and weekends
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools and precision measurement tools
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction/ blueprints
  • A strong commitment to all safety guidelines
  • Excellent communication problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt work accordingly on a daily basis
  • Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite plus
