New associates joining the Jones Walker team begin working in a specific practice group based on their experience or area of interest. As their knowledge and skills develop, we encourage our associates to take charge of their own careers and take an active role in cross-practice collaborations.
Along the path to partnership, our associates participate in the firm’s robust training program designed to provide structured, practical guidance on topics such as business development, law firm financials, and specific issues related to practice and industry teams. Associates are also encouraged to take advantage of seminars, CLE presentations, and other self-guided programs designed to advance their careers.
The firm’s formal mentor program is separated into three phases:
- Phase 1 is primarily designed to improve integration of new associates into the firm
- Phase 2 is geared toward improving the substantive skills of the mid-level associate
- Phase 3 is intended to encourage a dialogue regarding long-term career and business development goals and to prepare the senior associate or participating special counsel for promotion
