ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the safe operation of assigned equipment (primarily forklifts, man lifts, loaders) in areas such as the dock, open storage yards and warehouse
  • Insures the maintenance of all assigned equipment including performing pre-job inspections and periodic maintenance
  • Acts as signal man for other lift drivers, and shore crane operators
  • Assists in deck and warehouse operations when necessary
  • Complete daily inspection reports and forwards to maintenance as needed
  • Responsible for conducting quality inspections of various cargoes
  • Responsible for recording production information and documenting materials
  • Transload cargo to and from truck/rail/vessel/barge by marks and count
  • Report ALL incidents through the company’s reporting protocol
  • Support company safety initiatives
  • Demonstration of knowledge of all required competencies
  • Perform other duties as required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  •  At least 1 year of heavy equipment experience in a maritime/ industrial environment (preferred)

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school or equivalent (preferred)

 SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in a similar position in an industrial setting (preferred)
  • Working experience in cargo transportation (preferred)
  • Ability to safely operate assigned equipment
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment within a confined space
  • Thorough knowledge of warehousing operation and maintenance programs
  • Proficiency, and accuracy in clerical skills and record keeping
  • Thorough knowledge of personnel safety programs
  • Proficiency in equipment and deck operations
  • Be physically fit to perform all essential physical demands of this job safely
  • Demonstrated safe work practices, history, and leadership ability

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The incumbent will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hoSt-cool/cold as well as occasional rain. Will work at different elevations, noise levels will be moderate-high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical nature of the work will vary from day to day based on operational needs; however the job will require the incumbent to be able to perform: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. The incumbent will also be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to Hard Hat, eyewear, safety vests, gloves, masks/ respirators (when necessary) and steel-toe boots.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/ or in excess of 50 lbs. frequently, and/ or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

CERTIFICATIONS/ LISCENSURES 

  • TWIC/ OSHA 10/30
  • Forklift/ Loader/ Manlift operation certification (in house)
  • Water Survival / fall protection/ CPR/ first aid (in house)
