Notice Number:  200931-3
Date: 06/08/2022 06:00 thru 01/11/2023 19:00

Revetment operations are scheduled to start on the Lower Mississippi River 8 June 2022 with the Clearing and Snagging Unit at Ozark mile 578.6R followed by the Bank Grading Unit 14 July at Railroad Landing mile 344.0L. The Mat Sinking Unit will begin tow 18 July from Vicksburg north to Ozark mile 578.6R where revetment operations will begin 20 July. Limits of operations are expected to be Ozark mile 578.6R to Linwood mile 70.7L. Moves for floating plant will be indicated on the schedule attached to this publication and its updates. Season completion is anticipated on or about 21 January 2023 at Sarah Island mile 503.5R. Channel restrictions will be estimates based on previous work in the bend ways and actual conditions assessed when either the Bank Grading Unit or Mat Sinking Unit plants arrives on location and test tows and or pilot evaluations are available to ensure safe navigation. The MV Harrison and MV William James will be contact vessels for the Mat Sinking Unit operation. They will monitor channel 13 (above Baton Rouge) and channel 67 (below Baton Rouge), 24 hours/day while sinking operations are ongoing. The MSU will pass any tows which can be passed safely during working hours (typically 6am to 7pm. Exceptions may occur and will be posted in MSIBs). Restrictions will be relaxed with USCG coordination when the MSU is not in operation. The attached schedule represents the order of work for the Sinking Unit, Clearing and Snagging Unit and Bank Grading Unit. Mat sinking operation generally have the most significant restrictions on the navigation channel, with the grading operations generally impacting the channel to a lesser extent and clearing and snagging operations having little to no impact. These operations are vital to maintaining reliability and integrity of the navigation channel and riverbanks with the work often occurring in the most restrictive and most problematic reaches of the river.
