Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering designs, perform design calculations, prepare specifications, perform studies, and complete projects independently and with the aid of other engineers. The Engineer will be under the supervision of The Mechanical Department Manager, and will work with other engineers or technical leads to obtain support and collaboration on projects. Project work will be inclusive of all phases of a project and will include field walk down, meetings, design engineering, bid support, procurement support, construction administration, commissioning and start-up support.

General Responsibilities:

  • Support designs on multiple projects from startup to completion
  • Perform design activities on schedule and on budget.
  • Prepare design packages utilizing the QA/QC policy and all applicable client standards and code requirements
  • Review shop drawings and other vendor documentation for conformity with specifications
  • Periodically, interface with client, contractors and vendors on technical issues
  • Demonstrate excellent technical and professional engineering skills commensurate with years of experience
  • Coordinates with other engineers and supporting staff during preliminary and final plan preparation for conformance to standards and code requirements
  • Demonstrate a proactive, collaborative approach with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate for the project
  • Meet or exceed client expectations
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by managers within your group


  • BS and/or MS in Mechanical Engineering focusing on industrial utility systems, pressure vessels, machine design and stress analysis
  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • Able to develop, read and interpret and modify Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Able to size pumps, heat exchangers, knock-out pots, condensers, deaerators and other related mechanical equipment.
  • Familiarity with plant piping design (process piping, steam piping, utility piping)
  • Good technical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate concepts and ideas
  • Self-starter who can work independently or part of multi-discipline team
