Mississippi River Closure MM 189.5
The Mississippi River will be closed to all vessels at MM-189.8 AHOP, from 7:00 pm Oct 27 to 7:00 am Oct 28. The following requirements will be in place:
All downbound traffic shall check-in with VTS LMR, at or above MM-205, via landline at (504) 365-2512, to be placed in the queue. Towing vessels may push in wherever they feel comfortable, but no lower than MM-191. Towboats with 20 or more barges should be mindful of limited safe mooring areas south of the I-10 bridge.
All upbound traffic shall check in with New Orleans Traffic, at the Sunshine Bridge or within the 81 Mile Pt Vessel Movement Reporting Area, on VHF-FM CH 5a, to be placed in the queue.
Upon re-opening of the river, New Orleans Traffic will contact vessels via landline or VHF-FM CH-5a. Once underway, all vessels shall avoid meeting or overtaking at the site of the operation at MM-189.8, proceed with caution, and be mindful that there are anchor buoys located close to the channel line.
