Mississippi River-Subaqueous Stone Placement Mile 24.0 AHP LDB (update)
Notice Number: 22-102
Reference Navigation Bulletin No. 22-93, dated 29 July 2022, stating that commencing on or about 5 August 2022 and continuing through approximately 15 September 2022, a U.S. Government Contractor will be placing subaqueous stone along the Left Descending Bank (LDB) of the Mississippi River at approximate mile 24.0 Above Head of Passes (AHP).
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, MARINERS OF LARGE, SEA-GOING VESSELS UNDERWAY IN THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER ARE URGED NOT TO PASS ONE ANOTHER BETWEEN APPROXIMATE MILE 23.5 AHP AND APPROXIMATE MILE 24.5 AHP, DUE TO VESSELS NAVIGATING TOO CLOSE TO THE ON-GOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES.
MARINERS ARE URGED TO TRANSIT AT THEIR SLOWEST SAFE SPEED TO MINIMIZE WAKE AND PROCEED WITH CAUTION AFTER PASSING ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE.
The Contractor will work 7 days a week, 10 hours a day, during daylight hours, and the plant will include an anchor barge with hydraulic backhoe. An office barge and various material barges will be on-site, staged along the river at this location.
Mariners are advised that an anchor cable system will be used for this work, which will extend from the anchor barge located near the LDB, toward the channel of the Mississippi River (see map diagrams on pages 3 and 4).
During nighttime hours, the Contractor will be staged along the LDB, out of the Mississippi River Channel. The M/V KACIE LUHR and M/V SIMON MATHEW can be contacted on VHF marine channels 67, 72, and 16.
The point of contact with the New Orleans District is John Page at (337) 291-3015.
