SECTION VI - PROPOSED CHANGES
Periodically, the Coast Guard evaluates its system of aids to navigation to determine whether the conditions for which the aids to navigation were established have changed. When changes occur, the feasibility of improving, relocating, replacing, or discontinuing aids are considered. This section contains notice(s) of non-approved, proposed projects open for comment. This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.
LAKE MICHIGAN – IL – Chicago Harbor – Chart 14927
The Coast Guard will enforce a safety zone on the Main Branch of the Chicago River in Chicago, Illinois, in order to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment from the potential hazards associated with the annual dying of the river event. This safety zone will encompass all waters of the Main Branch of the Chicago River within 100 feet of the N. Columbus Drive Bridge to 100 feet within the Franklin-Orleans Street Bridge. This safety zone will be in effect from 9:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. on March 12, 2022. Vessels will not be allowed to enter, transit through, or anchor within the safety zone without the permission of the Coast Guard Captain of the Port Lake Michigan or a designated representative.
