SECTION V - ADVANCE NOTICES

This section contains advance notice of approved projects, changes to aids to navigation, or upcoming temporary changes such as dredging, etc. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.

 

LA – TIMBALIER AND TERREBONNE BAYS – Timbalier – Terrbonne Bay

Due to shoaling in Timbalier - Terrebonne Bay near the entrance to Havoline Canal the Coast Guard will be making the following changes after May 10, 2022:

Relocate Timbalier - Terrebonne Bay Light 33 (LLNR-17205) in approximate position 29-07-58.207N/090-18-12.394W, to position 29-07- 59.423N/090-17-16.097W, rename Timbalier - Terrebone Bay Light 37 (LLNR-17205).

Relocate Timbalier and Terrebonne Bay Light 36 (LLNR-17210) in approximate position 29-07-24.046N/090-17-21.116W, to position 29-07- 58.200N/090-18-12.348W.

 

SECTION VII – GENERAL

This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.

 

LA - GULF OF MEXICO - Beach Nourishment Operations – UPDATE

Attached as an enclosure to this LNM, notification from Weeks Marine, Inc., West Grand Terre Beach Nourishment Project (BA-0197) Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes, Louisiana.

 

LA - GIWW - NEW ORLEANS HARBOR HARVEY CANAL - Drawbridge Repair/Closure

The 4th Street drawbridge across the Harvey Canal, Mile 0.2, Gretna, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, is being repaired. The bridge will be closed to vessels from 6:00 a.m., on April 19, 2022, to 6:00 p.m., on June 4, 2022. Mariners can contact CEC, Inc., at (337) 237-1984, for up-to-date information.

 

LA - HOUMA NAVIGATIONAL CANAL - Dredge Operation – UPDATE

Dredging operations in Houma Terrebonne Bay, from approximately Mile 0.0, to approximately Mile -3.6, have ended.

 

LA - GIWW - PORT ALLEN ALTERNATE ROUTE - Lower Grand River - Bridge Repair Operations

The LA 77 drawbridge across the Lower Grand River, Port Allen Alternate Route, at Mile 47.0, WHL, Grosse Tete, LA., is being repaired on April 5, 2022. This bridge will not open to vessel traffic, from 6:00 a.m., to 6:00 p.m. Mariners should contact the bridge tender for updates to the repairs.

 

LA - SCHOONER BAYOU CONTROL STRUCTURE - Restricted Operations

Continuing until further notice, mariners are advised that Schooner Bayou Control Structure is in a restricted locking procedure because of low water and high salinity. The restricted procedure will consist of locking vessels starting at 6:00 a.m., every 2-hours on the even hours, until 6:00 p.m., 7-days a week. Only outboards and light vessels will be locked through the structure. All tows must use Leland Bowman Lock as an alternate route. LA - CALCASIEU RIVER BAR CHANNEL - Dredge Operation – UPDATE

Continuing until approximately April 14, 2022, the Dredge COLUMBIA is working in the Calcasieu River Bar Channel, from Mile -1.7 to Mile -10.0. The dredge will work 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, and will give way to passing navigation. The dredge can be contacted on either VHF-FM Channel 13 or 16, for sailing instructions. Mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made. TX - HOUSTON SHIP CHANNEL - Automatic Identification System, Aids to Navigation

The U.S. Coast Guard has temporarily established Automatic Identification System (AIS) Aids to Navigation in the Houston Ship Channel, in preparation for upcoming dredging operations. Existing charted Aids to Navigation from Houston Ship Channel Entrance Lighted Buoy 18 (LLNR[1]23900) to Houston Ship Channel Light 54 (LLNR-24185), will display an AIS broadcast symbol viewable on capable Radar and Electronic Charting systems. TX - CORPUS CHRISTI SHIP CHANNEL - Dredge Operation

Attached as an enclosure to this LNM, is Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. LLC., notification regarding dredging operations in the vicinity of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, Upper Bay Reach deepening project, Corpus Christi, TX.

 

TX - RIO GRANDE RIVER - Public Notice- Application for a U.S. Coast Guard Bridge Permit

All interested parties are notified that an application from the Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) has been received by the Commander, Eighth Coast Guard District, for approval of the enclosed plans to construct a bridge over a navigable waterway of the United States. The proposed bridge project is a railroad bridge over the Rio Grande River, Mile 366.93, between Laredo, Webb County, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Public Notice (01-22) dated March 16, 2022, pertaining to this proposed bridge permit action, contains a detailed description of the proposed bridge project and includes location maps and bridge drawings with navigational clearances.
