SECTION VII – GENERAL

This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.

 

MS - MISSISSIPPI SOUND - BILOXI HARBOR - Dredge Operation

Continuing until June 30, 2022, Dredge AMERICA will begin maintenance dredging operations in the Biloxi East Access Channel. Dredged material will be disposed into the existing open water sites adjacent to the channel. The dredge will utilize floating and submerged pipeline in addition to a number of support vessels. All vessels will be lighted in accordance to U.S. Coast Guard Safety Regulations. The dredge plant can be contacted on VHF-FM Channels 13 and 16. Mariners should exercise caution when transiting the area. Shipping traffic is urged to contact the dredge prior to passing. LA/MS - MISSISSIPPI SOUND APPROACHES - LAKE BORGNE - Marsh Creation Operations

Continuing until approximately August 31, 2022, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC., (GLDCC), is conducting dredging activities for the creation of Golden Triangle Marsh Creation in Lake Borgne. This includes the placement of approximately 28,000 feet of submerged pipeline. GLDCC will be utilizing the designated offshore borrow area as shown in the enclosed drawing, along with illustrations of the buoys. GLDCC will be removing approximately 4,550,000 cubic yards of material that will be transported via the submerged pipeline to a shoreline connection that will split to the three material containment areas for filling purposes. On-scene vessels will include Dredge ALASKA, Booster Barge TEXAS JR., Survey Boat CHESAPEAKE BAY, Crew Boat MISS GWEN, Tug K.J. LEBOEUF, Tug KYLE JOSEPH, Tug MISS SYDNEY, and a crane barge. Operations will be conducted 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Dredge ALASKA and on-scene vessels will monitor VHF-FM Channels 6, 13 and 16. Dredge ALASKA can be contacted by phone, at (443) 838-1711. Mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made.

 

LA - SOUTH PASS - Channel Condition – UPDATE

Two red unlit buoys have been temporarily established in the vicinity of Depot Point Light 14 (LLNR-12650), to mark shoaling, in approximate positions 29-07-45.206N 089-14-29.914W and 29-08-05.544N 089-14-37.362W. Mariners are urged to use caution when transiting the area.

 

LA - MISSISSIPPI RIVER, MILE 63.0, AHOP - MILE 66.0, AHOP - Submerged Pipeline Operations

Continuing until further notice, Weeks Marine Inc., is mobilizing equipment and are installing a submerged line on the Mississippi River, in the vicinity of the Alliance Anchorage Borrow Area, between Mile 63.0, AHOP and Mile 66.0, AHOP. The submerged line will be installed along the RDB, of the Mississippi River, just south of the Alliance Anchorage Borrow Area. The work limits for the Alliance Anchorage Borrow Area and the pipeline corridor will be bound by the following approximate positions: 29-43-12.83N 089-59-33.84W, 29-43-18.48N 089-59-17.09W, 29-41-59.61N 089-58-37.70W and 29-41-52.82N 089-58-56.69W. The submerged line will be removed at the completion of dredging operations.

 

LA - MISSISSIPPI RIVER, MILE 110.7, AHOP - Dredge Operation

Continuing through May 5, 2022, Wood Dredging, L.L.C., is performing dredging operations on the Lower Mississippi River, at Woods Materials Waggaman Sand Pit facility, near Mile 110.7, AHOP, RDB. The Dredge, W.B. WOOD and Tender, MR. KELLY, will monitor VHF-FM Channel 67 or 71. Mariners are urged to transit the area at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and exercise caution when transiting the area. LA - BARATARIA PASS - Sandbagging Operations

Commencing April 12, 2022 and continuing until April 16, 2022, Chevron Pipe Line Company will be conducting sandbagging operations in Barataria Pass, at approximate position 29-16-35.09N 089-57-26.36W, between Mile 1.0 and 2.0. Operations will be conducted 7-days a week, during daylight hours only. On-scene vessels will consist of BH101-Open Deck Barge, BH104-Spud Barge, Tug ANDREW C., Tug MAGGIE LYNN, Crew Boat JORDIE LYNNE and M/V CAPT BLAKE TERRY. On-scene vessels will monitor VHF-FM Channel 13 and 16. On-scene point of contact is Jace Serigny; at (985) 258-7618. Mariners are urged to use caution when transiting the area.

 

LA - BARATARIA WATERWAY - Dredge Operation – UPDATE

Continuing until approximately May 31, 2022, the Bucket Dredge J.C. DEVILLE, Crane Barge WEEKS 226/612 and Crane Barge WEEKS 262/646 are operating in the vicinity of Bayou Dupont Marsh Creation Areas, Jefferson Parish, LA. Work limits will be bound by the following approximate positions: 29-38-50.27N 090-05-50.56W, 29-38-26.62N 090-03-02.32W, 29-37-06.95N 090-02-01.01W and 29-36-03.21N 090-04-15.30W. Operations will be conducted 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. The dredge and attendant plant will monitor VHF-FM Channels 13, 16 and 67. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution and transit the area at their slowest safe speed to create minimum wake after passing arrangements have been made. The bucket dredge and attendant plant will each have all required U.S. Coast Guard lighting for night operations.

 

LA - PORT FOURCHON - CAMINADA - Marsh Creation Operations

Attached as an enclosure to this LNM, notification from Great Lakes Dredge and Dock concerning the Caminada Headland Back Barrier Marsh Creation Project located in LaFourche and Jefferson Parishes near Port Fourchon, LA.

 

LA - MORGAN CITY TO PORT ALLEN - Submerged Construction Hazards - Vessel Restrictions – UPDATE

The COTP Houma has restrictions for vessels transiting the Bayou Chene construction site. Please exercise caution and navigate at slowest safe speed when transiting the construction site, at Bayou Chene. The Bayou Chene Floodgate remains closed to all nighttime commercial traffic between the hours of 7:00 p.m., until 7:00 a.m. Any tow configuration with a combined beam greater than or equal to 54 feet or a length greater than 600 feet are required to have an actively engaged, shadow assist tug, when transiting through the construction site. To be in compliance with this requirement, tows must ensure the assist tug is ready and in position to provide immediate assistance throughout the entire transit through the floodgate. Vessels shall not meet or overtake when transiting through the construction site. All vessels intending to transit the Bayou Chene Floodgate area are required to report their dimensions to Vessel Traffic Service Berwick Bay before entering Bayou Chene. Vessel Traffic Service Berwick Bay can be reached, at (985) 380-5370 or VHF-FM Channel 11. All allisions with the Bayou Chene Floodgate structure must be reported and will be investigated by the U.S. Coast Guard. TX - NECHES RIVER - Dredge Operation

Commencing April 6, 2022 and continuing until June 30, 2022, Dredge HERIBERTO CORDOVA will be conducting dredging operations on the Neches River, in Port Neches, Texas, starting at approximate position 29-59-48.54N 093-56-50.93W and ending at approximate position 30-00-40.16N 093- 58-21.51W. Operations will be conducted 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Dredge placement area will be PA 18 on the red side of the channel. Two Anchor Barges, Supply Barge and three Tender Boats will be on location with the dredge. Dredge HERIBERTO CORDOVA will monitor VHF-FM Channels 3 and 13. Mariners are urged to use caution when transiting the area.

 

TX - GIWW - CHOCOLATE BAY - MILE 373.0 - MILE 377.0 WHL - Rock Placement Operations

Commencing April 15, 2022 and continuing until November 15, 2022, rock placement operations will be conducted in the vicinity of Chocolate Bay, near GIWW, Mile 373.0, WHL through Mile 377.0, WHL. Operations will be conducted during daylight hours only. M/V JOHN G. MORGAN, Barge IBR 904, Barge GI-3 and Barge TM-3 will be on-scene and will monitor VHF-FM Channel 16. Mariners are urged to use caution when transiting the area.

 

TX - GIWW - CORPUS CHRISTI BAY - Dredge Operation

Continuing until April 25, 2022, Orion Marine is dredging in the Corpus Christi Bay and GIWW. Operational boundaries are between GIWW, Mile 547.0, WHL and Mile 550.0, WHL. The Dredge JULIUS HUNTER will be on-scene and monitoring VHF-FM Channel 3 and 16. Mariners are urged to transit the area at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and give advanced notification 30-minutes prior to passage
