SECTION I – SPECIAL NOTICES
This section contains information of special concern to the Mariner. 

ILLINOIS WATERWAY - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY – UPDATE

The following zones are in the high water watch phase in accordance with the Illinois Waterway Action Plan Annex:

Peoria (Mile 187.0 – Mile 145.6),

Copperas Creek (Mile 145.5 – Mile 129.0),

Havana (Mile 128.9 – Mile 102.0),

Beardstown (Mile 101.9 – Mile 80.3) and

Meredosia (Mile 80.2 – Mile 50.0).

Mariners should exercise caution and minimize wake in all high water zones.  The laying-up on saturated levees is prohibited.  Mariners should be experienced in high water conditions and avoid downstreaming operations.  Mariners should remain vigilant to an increase in debris and maneuver appropriately.  Be aware that a buildup of debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take appropriate action to prevent barge breakaways.  Exercise caution in all passing/meeting situations as swift current may be present.  Navigation buoys may have been dragged off station, so remain alert while transiting.  Recreational traffic is discouraged.

ILLINOIS WATERWAY

MILE 271.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION

The Dresden L/D in the vicinity of Mile 271.0, has a gate opening of 30 feet and outdraft conditions.  The lower gauge reading is 494.98.  Tows over 70 feet in width, must have loads on the land wall side.  Mariners may contact U.S. Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan at (414) 747-7182 or the Dresden L/D via VHF-FM Channel 16, for additional information.

MILE 258.9 - MILE 258.6 - DREDGE OPERATION – UPDATE

The M/V LaSALLE has completed mechanical dredging/strike removal between approximate Miles 258.9 and 258.6, RDB, Grist Island.

MILE 247.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION

The Marseilles L/D in the vicinity of Mile 247.0, is operating with an extreme outdraft of 28 feet.  Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

MILE 231.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION

The Starved Rock L/D in the vicinity of Mile 231.0, has a gate opening of 26 feet and outdraft conditions.  Helper boats are recommended for large southbound tows.  Mariners may contact U.S. Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan at (414) 747-7182 or the Starved Rock L/D via VHF-FM Channel 14, for additional information.
