Notice to Navigators: Illinois River

IRCA: Ice Conditions Update IW 26 Jan 2022

 

I’ve received reports that ice is packed in tight from mm205 down to Lacon with no trail.  See below and attached for today’s update from USACE.

Two changes from yesterday.  With the temps falling well below zero and lack of traffic around Dresden Island Lock the channel has frozen over with 2” ice.  Outside the channel it is closer to 6”.  Helper boats may be required for northbound cuts at Dresden on a case-by-case basis.

 

Peoria Lock has changed their status to helper boats required since they are now at 100 percent coverage above the lock.
