SECTION I – SPECIAL NOTICES

This section contains information of special concern to the Mariner.

 

ILLINOIS WATERWAY - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY – UPDATE- The following zones are in the high water watch phase in accordance with the Illinois Waterway Action Plan Annex:

Meredosia (Mile 50.0 – Mile 80.2),

Beardstown (Mile 101.9 – Mile 80.3),

Havana (Mile 128.9 – Mile 102.0) and

Copperas (Mile 145.5 – Mile 129.0).

Mariners should exercise caution and minimize wake in all high water zones.  The laying-up on saturated levees is prohibited.  Mariners should be experienced in high water conditions and avoid down-streaming operation.  Mariners should remain vigilant to an increase in debris and maneuver appropriately.  Be aware that a buildup of debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take appropriate action to prevent barge breakaways.  Exercise caution in all passing/meeting situations as swift current may be present.  Navigation buoys may have been dragged off station, so remain alert while transiting.  Recreational traffic is discouraged.

This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.

 

ILLINOIS WATERWAY

MILE 286.0 - L/D CLOSURE- On March 15, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., the Brandon Road L/D in the vicinity of mile 286.0, will be closed for maintenance.  During this closure, towboat operators are requested NOT to tie up on the guidewalls.  Mariners may contact the L/D at (815) 744-1714 or via VHF-FM Channel 14, for assistance.
