SECTION I - SPECIAL NOTICES

This section contains information of special concern to the Mariner.

 

UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY

The following Zone is in the low water watch phase IAW the Western Rivers WAP Annex: Zone 28 (Mile 185.4 – Mile 160.1). Mariners should exercise caution, beware of shifting channels, transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize their wake near fleeting areas and place heavy barges in the middle of their tows. Industry should consider moving deep draft barges out of Zone 28, to ensure safe navigation. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

SECTION VII - GENERAL

This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.

 

MILE 900.0 - MILE 899.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION/AIDS TO NAVIGATION

Shoaling has been reported between approximate Miles 900.0 and 899.0, encroaching beyond the can buoys, towards the navigation channel. The buoys in the area should be considered unreliable. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 800.6 - MILE 800.2 - DREDGE OPERATION

Continuing until approximately October 8, 2021, the Dredge WADE is conducting dredging between approximate Miles 800.6 and 800.2. Work will be conducted from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The support vessels M/V WELLS and the M/V MACNAMARA, will monitor VHF[1]FM Channel 13 or 80 and requests 30-minutes advance notice of passage. Mariners are urged to transit the area at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made.

 

MILE 799.4 - MILE 798.9 - DREDGE OPERATION – UPDATE

The M/V WELLS and the M/V MACNAMARA have completed dredging operations between approximate Miles 799.4 and 798.9.

 

MILE 796.9 - AID TO NAVIGATION

A submerged buoy has been reported approximately 1 mile above L/D 3 in the vicinity of Mile 796.9. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 785.5 - MILE 784.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported between approximate Miles 785.5 and 784.0. The navigation channel has been reduced to approximately 200 feet. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 361.3 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported in the vicinity of Mile 361.3. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 336.1 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported in the vicinity of Mile 336.1. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 305.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported in the vicinity of Mile 305.0. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 300.6 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported in the vicinity of Mile 300.6. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 103.0 - MILE 102.4 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported between approximate Miles 103.0 and 102.4. Based on the USACE survey dated September 10, 2021, 10-foot water depths are noted along the nun buoy line at low water with the Chester Gauge reading of (-)0.4 feet. Depths noted along the sail line are 8.5 feet and along the can buoy line are 7 feet. Mariners shall review the latest USACE surveys, prior to departure and transit the area with caution.

 

MILE 80.5 - MILE 76.5 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported between approximate Miles 80.5 and 76.5, just off the sailing line. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.
