SECTION I - SPECIAL NOTICES

This section contains information of special concern to the Mariner

 

LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY – UPDATE

The COTP Lower Mississippi River has issued a low water Safety Advisory between approximate Miles 869.0 and 725.5, due to the Memphis Gauge reaching 0 feet. The USACE maintained depths and widths, may not be attainable on all buoy lines. Mariners are advised to monitor all gauge readings for safe navigation. Mariners are requested to contact U.S. Coast Guard Sector Western Rivers Command Center via VHF-FM Channel 16 or at (866) 777-2784, to report areas of shoaling, hazardous conditions or missing aids to navigation.

 

LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY

The USACE maintained depths and widths, may not be attainable on all buoy lines. Mariners are advised to monitor all gauge readings for safe navigation. Mariners are requested to contact U.S. Coast Guard Sector Western Rivers Command Center via VHF-FM Channel 16 or at (866) 777-2784, to report areas of shoaling, hazardous conditions or missing aids to navigation.

This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.

 

LA - MISSISSIPPI RIVER, MILE 58.0, AHOP TO MILE 156.5, AHOP - Submerged Obstructions/Virtual Automated Identification System Aids to Navigation – UPDATE

For the safety of Maritime Traffic the U.S. Coast Guard has temporarily established Virtual Automated Identification System Aids to Navigation over the following USACE identified obstructions throughout the Mississippi River, AHOP.

  1. Mississippi River Wreck VAIS 134WR (LLNR-14402) Mile 133.5, LDB, AHOP, approximate position 30-03-15.0N 090-29-18.9W, Starboard Lateral IALA B virtual aid. The following identified obstructions have been reportedly salvaged: 1 Mississippi River Wreck VAIS 58WR (LLNR-13457) Mile 58.0, LDB, AHOP, approximate position 29-38-11.1N 089-55-36.9W
  2. Mississippi River Wreck VAIS 114WR (LLNR-14117) Mile 114.0, LDB, AHOP, approximate position 29-58-24.7N 090-15-54.5W.
  3. Mississippi River Wreck VAIS 126WR (LLNR-14302) Mile 125.5, LDB, AHOP, approximate position 29-59-25.8N 090-24-16.5W.
  4. Mississippi River Wreck VAIS 137WR (LLNR-14452) Mile 137.0, RDB, AHOP, approximate position 30-02-42.3N 090-32-16.5W.
  5. Mississippi River Wreck VAIS 157WR (LLNR-14692) Mile 156.5, RDB, AHOP, approximate position 29-58-45.3N 090-49-23.4W. 6. Mississippi River Wreck VAIS 138WR (LLNR-14469) Mile 138.0, LDB, AHOP, approximate position 30-03-10.3N 090-33-32.1W.

MILE 900.0 - MILE 899.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION/AIDS TO NAVIGATION

Shoaling has been reported between approximate Miles 900.0 and 899.0, encroaching beyond the can buoys, towards the navigation channel. The buoys in the area should be considered unreliable. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.

 

MILE 770.8 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported in the vicinity of Mile 770.8, RDB, resulting in a reduced channel width. Mariners are advised to favor the LDB, in the area and proceed with caution.

 

MILE 756.6 - MILE 756.4 MILE 756.2 - MILE 756.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported between approximate Miles 756.6 and 756.4, mid-channel and between approximate Miles 756.2 and 756.0, along the LDB. The USACE maintained depth and channel width may not be available on all buoy lines. Mariners are urged to transit these areas with caution and to report areas of shoaling to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Western Rivers via VHF-FM Channel 16 or at (866) 777-2784.

 

MILE 800.6 - MILE 800.2 - DREDGE OPERATION – UPDATE

The Dredge WADE has completed dredging between approximate Miles 800.6 and 800.2.

 

MILE 482.9 - MILE 482.6 - DREDGE OPERATION – UPDATE

Dredging operations between approximate Miles 482.9 and 482.6, has been suspended.

 

MILE 469.5 - MILE 469.2 - DREDGE OPERATION

Continuing until further notice, the M/V LAURA K., is conducting dredging operations/strike removal between approximate Miles 469.5 and 469.2, Montpelier. Work will be conducted from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The M/V LAURA K., will monitor VHF-FM Channel 7 or 13 and requests 30-minutes advance notice of passage. Mariners are urged to transit the area at their slowest safe speed to minimize their wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made.

 

MILE 190.2 - AGROUND VESSEL

A 40-foot S/V has been reported aground in the vicinity of Mile 190.2. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.
