NOTICE TO MARINERS
LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER
SECTION I - SPECIAL NOTICES
This section contains information of special concern to the Mariner.
LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL CONDITION
The COTP Lower Mississippi River has issued a Safety Advisory due to the expected rapid increase in river levels over the next several days. Mariners are advised to transit the area with caution, due to the hazardous conditions associated with strong currents, severe outdrafts, missing or off station aids to navigation and diving buoys. Fleet operators should regularly check their fleets and immediately report barge breakaways to the U.S. Coast Guard.
SECTION V - ADVANCE NOTICES
This section contains advance notice of approved projects, changes to aids to navigation, or upcoming temporary changes such as dredging, etc. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.
LA – MISSISSIPPI RIVER DELTA – South Pass
The Coast Guard will be making the following changes after April 19, 2022: Change South Pass Light 4 (LLNR-12590) to South Pass Lighted Buoy 4 (LLNR-12590) in approximate position 28-59-22.644N/089-08-11.267W, showing Q R, Nominal Range 4NM, Red. Discontinue South Pass Buoy 9B (LLNR-12612) in approximate position 29-03-36.719N/089-12-23.826W. Discontinue South Pass Lighted Buoy 9C (LLNR-12615) in approximate position 29-04-30.040N/089-12-50.857W. Discontinue South Pass Lighted Buoy 9D (LLNR-12622) in approximate position 29-04-46.943N/089-13-01.931W. Discontinue South Pass Lighted Buoy 11B (LLNR-12642) in approximate position 29-07-07.579N/089-14-29.126W.
SECTION VII – GENERAL
This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.
LA - MISSISSIPPI RIVER, MILE 85.0, AHOP, RDB - Dredge Operation
Continuing through March 3, 2022, dredging operations are being conducted along the Lower Mississippi River, at the Woods Material Algiers facility, at Mile 85.0, AHOP, RDB. The Dredge, W.B. WOOD and Tender MR. KELLY will monitor VHF-FM Channel 67 or 71. Mariners are urged to transit the area at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and exercise caution when transiting the area. LA - MISSISSIPPI RIVER, MILE 94.0, AHOP TO MILE 96.0, AHOP - Survey Operations
Continuing until February 25, 2022, Bruce's Legacy Inc., is conducting sonar surveys on the Lower Mississippi River from approximate Mile 94.0, AHOP, LDB, to Mile 96.0, AHOP, LDB, from 8:00 a.m., until 3:00 p.m., each day. The on-scene vessel, M/V BRUCE'S LEGACY, will monitor VHF-FM Channel 67. For additional information, mariners can contact Keith Cormican, at (715) 896-0726. Mariners are urged to transit the area at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and exercise extreme caution when transiting the area.
LA - MISSISSIPPI RIVER, MILE 186.5, AHOP TO MILE 187.2, AHOP - Loading Operations
Continuing until February 25, 2022, loading operations are being conducted on the Lower Mississippi River, at the Honeywell Dock, 24-hours a day, each day. Mariners are urged to transit at slowest safe speed to minimize wake from Mile 186.5, AHOP, to Mile 187.2, AHOP.
