Notice to Navigators: Missouri River

Please see attachments for the below areas of concern from recent hydro surveys conducted on the river. As a reminder, mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.

 

 

***** LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS*****

Descriptions below are from the original area of concerns that have been submitted. Surveys attached may be of all or part of the River Miles (RM) that the area of concern encompass.

 

USACE Dredge Goetz on the MOR  Anticipate dredging operations at RM 178. Dredge is being moved up river at this time.  Contact on VHF 13/16 & 82 or call 651-249-6035 for passing instructions.

 

MILE 185.0 CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported at RM 185 near the Rocheport Bridge over I-70. Shoaling has been reported in the channel from RM 185 through RM 186. Water depths are less than 9 foot at this time but conditions are changing with water levels. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.

 

For reference the GPS coordinates for the virtual buoys around the shoaling are as follows:

1, 38 57 36.1293 N, 092 32 41.1508 W, NUN

2, 38 57 38.8616 N, 092 32 43.8869 W, NUN

3, 38 57 42.6783 N, 092 32 47.0121 W, NUN

4, 38 57 35.2607 N, 092 32 40.1226  W, NUN

 

MILE 397.6 - SUBMERGED OBSTRUCTION

A submerged obstruction (old pylons from previous bridge) has been reported in the vicinity of Mile 397.6, underneath the Leavenworth Highway Bridge, alternate navigation span. Mariners are advised to transit the main navigation span with caution.

 

For reference the GPS coordinates for a box around the obstruction are as follows:

1, 39 19 47.5 N, 094 54 31.8 W

2, 39 19 46.4 N, 094 54 31.4 W

3, 39 19 46.1 N, 094 54 33.4 W

4, 39 19 47.2 N, 094 54 33.6 W

 

MILE 238 CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported from RM 238 at the Chariton River.  Water depths are 8- 11 foot at this time but conditions are changing with water levels. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.

 

MILE 130.5-131.0 CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported from RM 130.5-131.0. Shoaling across the main channel at RM 130.5 to 130.8 has produced water depths less than 8 foot in many places. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.

 

MILE 132.5-133.5 CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported from RM 132.5-133.5. Shoaling across the main channel at RM 132.5 to 133.5 has produced water depths less than 9 foot in many places. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.

 

MILE 186.5-187.5 CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported from RM 186-187. Shoaling has been reported in the channel from RM 186 through RM 187. Water depths are 10- 14 foot at this time but conditions are changing with water levels. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.

 

MILE 177.7-180.5 CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported from RM 177-180. Shoaling has been reported in the channel from RM 177 through RM 180. Water depths are 8-10 foot at this time but conditions are changing with water levels. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.

 

MILE 280.0-282.0 CHANNEL CONDITION

Shoaling has been reported from RM 280 to RM 282. Shoaling on the right descending bank towards the sailing line in this area. Shallowest water (less than 8 ft) is observed at RM 280.4 to 280.8 on right descending bank side of sailing line and the channel is less than 300 feet in this area. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and to transit areas of shoaling at their slowest safe speed and proceed with caution.
