SOUTHEAST RIVERS

SECTION VII – GENERAL

This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.

 

BLACK WARRIOR-TOMBIGBEE WATERWAY

 

AL - BLACK WARRIOR-TOMBIGBEE WATERWAY - Channel Condition

Minor flood stages have been reported and will exist for the next several days. Attention should be given to high water, debris and strong currents. Additionally, a 400-foot by 3-foot section of turbidity curtain is loose between Miles 171.0 to 172.0. For additional information, mariners can contact Mr. Chad Brumelow, at (205) 752-3571. Mariners are urged to exercise extreme caution when transiting the river system especially during minor flood stages.

 

MILE 172.0 - MILE 171.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION/NAVIGATION OBSTRUCTION

Minor flooding has been reported along the Black Warrior River - Tombigbee Waterway. Mariners should be alert to high water conditions, an increase in debris and strong currents. A 400-foot by 3-foot section of turbidity curtain has been reported between approximate Miles 172.0 and 171.0, and may pose a navigation obstruction. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area. Mariners may contact Mr. Chad Brumelow, BWT/Alabama-Coosa Project Management Office at (205) 752-3571, for additional information.

 

MOBILE RIVER

 

AL - MOBILE BAY - MOBILE RIVER - Dredge Operation

Commencing April 8, 2022 and continuing until July 8, 2022, Pipeline Dredge E. STROUD will begin maintenance dredging operations in the southern end of the Mobile River, in the vicinity of APM Terminals and the upper bay turning basin. The dredge will be placing material in the north Pinto upland disposal area adjacent to the channel. The dredge can be contacted on VHF-FM Channels 13 and 16. For further information, mariners can contact the USACE Irvington Site Office, at (251) 957-6019. Mariners should exercise extreme caution when transiting these areas.

 

TENNESSEE RIVER

 

MILE 246.0 - MILE 244.0 - SHORE-SIDE DEMOLISION/SAFETY ZONE/RIVER CLOSURE

On April 14, 2022, from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m., The COTP Ohio Valley has established a Safety Zone, closing the river between approximate Miles 246.0 and 244.0, to facilitate shore-side demolition. Entry into this Safety Zone is prohibited to all vessels, unless authorized by the COTP Ohio Valley. Mariners may contact the project manager at (256) 386-2140, for additional information.

 

TENNESSEE-TOMBIGBEE RIVER

 

MS - TENNESSEE-TOMBIGBEE WATERWAY - Fiber Line Installation Operations

From April 11, 2022 until April 14, 2022, TVA will be installing new fiber lines across the river channel, at Mile 365.0, on Aberdeen Lake. Operations will be conducted from dawn to dusk, each day. During this same time, a low flying helicopter supporting the work will be in the area as well as two small watercrafts and one TVA Police boat/officer to warn river traffic of the work. All crafts in support of this operation will monitor VHF-FM Channel 16. Mariners may expect delays during this event. Mariners are urged to transit this section at no wake speed.
