NOTICE TO MARINERS

SECTION I – SPECIAL NOTICES
This section contains information of special concern to the Mariner.
UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER - CHANNEL CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY
The following zones are in the low water watch phase IAW the Western Rivers WAP Annex:
Zone 28 (Mile 185.4 – Mile 160.1) and
Zone 29 (Mile 160.0 – Mile 101.9).
Mariners should exercise caution, beware of shifting channels, transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize their wake near fleeting areas and place heavy barges in the middle of their tows. Industry should consider moving deep draft barges out of Zones 28 and 29, to ensure safe navigation. Mariners are urged to exercise caution in the area.
SECTION VII – GENERAL
This section contains information of general concern to the Mariners. Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting these areas.
MILE 364.2 - L/D CLOSURE
Commencing December 19, 2021 and continuing until March 4, 2022, L/D 19, in the vicinity of Mile 364.2, will be closed to navigation. During this closure, mariners are requested NOT to tie up along the guidewalls.
MILE 55.0 - MILE 53.0 - CHANNEL CONDITION/AIDS TO NAVIGATION
Shoaling has been reported between approximate Miles 55.0 and 53.0. Several nun and can buoys in the area have been reported missing. Mariners are requested to transit the area with caution and to review of the latest USACE survey(s), prior to transiting.
