Notice to Navigators: Upper Mississippi River

RIAC:  USCG Safety Zone - Ameren project @ UMR 172

 

The official BNM for the work being performed at UM172 is attached and below. The daily closures and re-openings will be announced via SMIB on vhf ch16 if a closure is to occur that day.

 

It looks like we’ll be more than half done by the end of day tomorrow.

 

ALL MARINERS BE ADVISED THERE IS AN ESTABLISHED SAFETY ZONE AT MILE MARKERS 172.0 THROUGH 172.3 DUE TO ONGOING LINE WORK.

THIS SAFETY ZONE WILL BE IN EFFECT DURING WORKING HOURS ONLY. NO VESSEL OR PERSON WILL BE PERMITTED TO ENTER THE SAFETY ZONE UNLESS GIVEN PERMISSION BY THE CAPTAIN OF THE PORT.

TO SEEK PERMISSION TO ENTER CONTACT THE WESTERN RIVERS COMMAND CENTER ON CHANNEL 16 OR BY PHONE 314-269-2332.

THE SAFETY ZONE WILL BE ACTIVATED AND DEACTIVATED EACH DAY WITH A SMIB. IF THERE ARE DAYS WHERE WORK IS NOT BEING CONDUCTED, THEN NO SMIB WILL BE ISSUED.

ALL MARINERS ARE REMINDED THAT THE WATERWAY WILL BE OPEN OUTSIDE OF ELECTRICAL LINE WORKING HOURS.

As we discussed previously, we have established a safety zone for the ongoing Ameren project. It will still be activated in the usual ways, calling into the Command Center when it’s opened or closed. Our command center staff should be releasing the BNM shortly. Please let me know If you have any questions.
