Date: 06/21/2022 thru 08/31/2022
Ohio River Miles 924-927: The navigation channel between Ohio River Miles 926 and 927 has shoaling which has resulted in vessel groundings in the past week.
The physical buoys on the main navigation channel have been moved toward the left descending bank, as shown in the attached file titled “Notice 2022-016 OH_LD_OLM_20220621_CS_924_927_SORT.pdf”. This attachment also shows channel depths. Furthermore, this attachment shows channel depths and locations of physical buoys for an alternate navigation channel between Ohio River Miles 924 and 927 along the Illinois side of the river. The depths in this drawing correspond to a Smithland Locks and Dam lower gage of 12.0, and represent conditions found during surveys performed on 21 June 2022.
The alternate navigation channel has also been marked with AIS AToN’s (electronic buoys). The attached file titled “Notice 2022-016 AIS Buoy Mile 924-927_RosePoint.pdf” shows how these electronic buoys appear on RosePoint.
Mariners should make note of conditions and exercise caution when transiting the area.
