Reference Navigation Bulletin No. 23-85, dated 29 June 2023, stating that commencing on or about 6 July 2023 and continuing through 31 August 2023, mariners will be subject to delays (up to 4 hours) during daylight hours only, and continuous closures to navigation at Old River Lock due to repairs, performing pre-tensioning the newly installed wire ropes, and performing the actual function test of the newly installed Emergency Bulkhead Lowering Carriage Machinery.
BEGINNING ON 21 AUGUST 2023 AND CONTINUING THROUGH 31 AUGUST 2023, MARINERS WILL BE SUBJECT TO DELAYS UP TO 4 HOURS AT OLD RIVER LOCK. THE DELAYS DURING THIS PERIOD WILL OCCUR DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY. THESE DELAYS ARE NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE DEMOBILIZATION OF EQUIPMENT AND TO INSTALL THE REMOVABLE BUILDING SHEDS THAT COVER THE LOCK EMERGENCY BULKHEAD LOWERING CARRIAGE SYSTEM.
OLD RIVER LOCK WILL BE CLOSED TO NAVIGATION FROM 8:00 A.M. TO 5:30 P.M. ON MONDAY, 21 AUGUST 2023, TO PERFORM THE FUNCTION TEST OF THE NEW LIFTING TRUSS THAT WILL BE UTILIZED TO LIFT THE EMERGENCY STOPLOGS.
NOTE: THE ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED 24 HOURS PER DAY CLOSURES AT OLD RIVER LOCK FROM 21 AUGUST 2023 THROUGH 24 AUGUST 2023 HAVE BEEN CANCELED.
