OPERATIONAL STATUS – WEST LOCK APPROACH: ST. MARYS FALLS CANAL (Update)

NOTICE TO NAVIGATION INTERESTS

St. Marys River

Effective 4-28 15:00 thru 1-15-23 23:59 EDT

  1. Ongoing dredging, deepening, and construction activities are occurring in the St. Marys Falls North Canal, West of the Soo Locks. This area is closed to all vessel traffic except at the specific direction of the Chief Lockmaster.  This area is shown in wide hatching on the attached chartlet.
  2. This closure will remain in effect through January 15, 2023.
  3. Occasional dredging, deepening, and construction activities will occur in the South canal adjacent the area closed to navigation traffic. Vessels conducting these activities will generally be restricted in ability to maneuver.  Mariners are to proceed with caution and give adequate berth when passing vessels engaged in construction activities in this area.  This area is shown in narrow hatching on the attached chartlet.
  4. Frequent construction logistics activities will occur along Southwest Pier, including material barge movements and personnel transportation. Vessel traffic location and movements will be coordinated at the direction of the Chief Lockmaster.  This area is shown in gray on the attached chartlet.
