Port Bienville is Awarded PIDP Grant Funding for Rail Storage Yard Project

Port Bienville in Hancock County is one of two ports to receive grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve port facilities.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the 25 awards in 19 states totaling more than $241 million that were awarded through the Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program.

Bay St. Louis’ Port Bienville Rail Storage Yard Project will build a new rail storage yard to support the existing operations at the port facility.  The $4.14 million project would add 130 additional storage spaces, construct two sets of storage tracks, and a new rail siding. These additional spaces are expected to increase the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission’s storage capacity by 25 percent so that it can safely manage the current storage operations and address the current unmet storage demand.

The other grant awarded in Mississippi is in Aberdeen for $4 million.

“U.S. maritime ports play a critical role in our supply chains,” Buttigieg said. “These investments in our nation’s ports will help support American jobs, efficient and resilient operations, and faster delivery of goods to the American people.”

All PIDP grant award recipients must apply, comply with, and implement all provisions of the Buy American Act.
