The Ports of Indiana has begun its search for a Port Director of its Lake Michigan Port in Burns Harbor/Portage.
The Ports of Indiana is seeking a highly motivated business development and operational professional to serve as Port Director of its Lake Michigan port in Burns Harbor/Portage, Ind., which is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor is the newest, most modern facility on the Great Lakes and handles more ocean-going cargo than any U.S. port on the Great Lakes.
The Ports of Indiana is a quasi-governmental enterprise that operates a statewide system of ports, foreign-trade zones, and economic development programs under the authority of the Indiana Port Commission - a seven-member bipartisan board appointed by the governor. The mission of the Ports of Indiana is to provide a modern port system and specialized services that promote the agricultural, industrial, and commercial development of Indiana. The state's three public ports are located in Burns Harbor on Lake Michigan, as well as Mount Vernon and Jeffersonville on the Ohio River.

This position will be responsible for managing daily operations for Ports of Indiana – Burns Harbor, to ensure optimal, effective use of facilities and execution of operational strategy. This position will also ensure compliance of all Ports of Indiana public tariffs, regulations, and the regulations of operation of local, state, federal. Furthermore, this position will develop economic opportunities, market Port property and tenant services to the end of increasing the economic size and scale of the Port location within the region and state. All work ultimately designed to enhance the sustainability of the organization conforming to the mission stated in statute, interpreted through the COO and CEO.
This is a full-time position with an outstanding benefits package. Position requires a bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of managerial experience in freight transportation and marketing or sales and three (3) years of supervising others and leading a team. A proven record of success in marketing and sales with strong knowledge of the freight transportation, Inland Waterways shipping and commerce.
