1.0    ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY  
JOB PURPOSE (Summary of Outputs of the Job)

The Vessel Maintenance Supervisor manages all maintenance to the Motor Vessels.  If maintenance issues arise, the boat contacts this person, and he/she then follows the procedures to fix those issues.  The Supervisor also performs preventative maintenance and scheduled maintenance.  When MVs are in shipyard for regulatory audits, the supervisor performs all items to equipment necessary or scheduled.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES
Includes but not limited to:
  • Keep Vessel in a ‘ready’ condition for all USCG/other inspections and ensure proper working condition all systems
  • Maintain good working relationships with all vessel employees
  • Assure vessel is in compliance with all governmental regulations and company policies
  • Administer company policies
  • Respond to vessels emergencies minimizing vessel down time and provide onsite supervision and direction as needed
  • Frequent on board vessel inspections to ensure efficient and safe vessel operations are maintained
  • Ensure good public relations are maintained with local, state and federal agencies.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance safety in all operations
  • Ensure good relationships with sales and logistics, repair, finance, purchasing, crewing, human resources and claims departments
  • Comply with Company Safety Management System

Required for position:

  • Be a HSE leader.
  • Be able to stop the work if felt unsafe.

  • Spot and report any change to ensure MOC (Management of Change) is considered.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

Required for future development:

  • Lead by example in demonstrating the correct behavior in implementing the tankering program.
  • Recognize the ‘ownership' of health, safety and environmental control within their sphere of activity and lead by example.
  • Require Captains to demonstrate effective control over health, safety, security and environmental responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS (Professional, Technical, Academic)

Essential:

  • 8-10 years inland boat maintenance experience in the inland towing sector

 

TECHNICAL (Experience/Skills/Knowledge)

Essential:

  • Work experience in maintenance operations
  • Good oral and written communications skills for general business and technical matters

Preferred:

  • Direct industry sector experience
  • Boat management or operational experience

 

 

NON TECHNICAL (Experience/Skills/Knowledge)

Essential:

  • Excellent communicator
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize and work as part of a leadership team
  • Ability to influence teams - an enthusiastic leader
  • Ability to prioritize and work within a dynamic and constantly changing work environment
