Port KC advances intermodal rail and river port terminal project
Industry Day planned for May 23, 2022

KANSAS CITY, Mo (April 28, 2022) – On May 23, 2022, Port KC will host an Industry Day for the Missouri River Terminal project to raise awareness and engage potential industry partners.

At the event, project team members and public stakeholders will share updated information in anticipation of procurement for this project:

  • Regional freight trends and demand
  • Upcoming procurement process
  • Federal permitting process and project timeline

Industry Day will also provide the critical opportunity to solicit feedback from the market and potential commercial partners. Following Industry Day, Port KC anticipates soliciting statements of qualifications from respondents in June 2022. To enable the development of MRT, Port KC will engage with partners through long-term master development agreement(s).

Port KC is in the advanced planning stages for MRT after purchasing the 415-acre site in 2018 from AK Steel Corporation. Port KC will pursue the development of MRT as an advanced state-of-the-art intermodal development that will enhance the region’s rail, water, and highway trade platform.

Participation is mandatory for procurement participation, with both in-person and virtual options available. Registration is required and will become available closer to the date. There will be limited availability for in-person one-on-one sessions the following morning by request.

Please sign up for our MRT Information List for the most up-to-date information on the Industry Day event. The event will take place in the afternoon in downtown Kansas City.

Additional project information is available on Port KC’s website.
