RIAC – Transit Speeds Near Fleets

Towing vessel and passenger vessel operators:

Please remind your captains to be mindful and considerate of their speeds, particularly when passing near fleets and docks and especially during this low water event. There have been a few occurrences where fleets have broken or nearly broken away due to their wake / bank suction event caused by fast-passing vessels. There was also an incent where a fast passing vessel casued several private boat docks to be broken free of their moorings. Luckily nothing major has occurred but things could have easily gone bad.
