Ship Channel through Carpenter’s Bayou – Dredge Pipe Operations

Please note Orion Marine Group will be on-site as soon as the end of this week, August 25, 2023, to commence preparations for dredging operations at the CEMEX Channelview DeZavala Cement Terminal. This work will require the instillation of submerged pipeline from the spoil placement area west of the Sheldon Road Bridge, outbound Carpenter’s Bayou to CEMEX Channelview (see attached). The instillation will commence west of Sheldon Road Bridge continuing outbound the bayou then crossing Carpenter’s Bayou to CEMEX Channelview. A Category I Channel Obstruction (full closure) of the mouth to Carpenter’s Bayou at the Houston Ship Channel will be scheduled and announced at a future date. It is estimated that the instillation of the submerge pipeline will take 10-13 days.
- CEMEX Channelview DeZavala Cement Terminal is on the red side of the Upper Houston Ship Channel approximately 900 feet above (inbound) LT 128.
- The mouth of Carpenter’s Bayou is on the red side of the Upper Houston Ship Channel approximately 4.300 feet above (inbound) LT 128, across the ship channel from San Jacinto Park
During the instillation process, support vessels with Orion Marine Group, will be operating within Carpenter’s Bayou coordinating directly with active maritime traffic from the facilities that are expected to be impacted for the specific section of work being done that day with operations taking place during daylight hours only. Vessels will be operating/monitoring VHF Channels 13 and 3.
