The First International Ship of 2024 Arrives at the Port of Chicago!

On April 5th the IIPD Board Chair Ivan Solis, 10th Ward Alderman Peter Chico and the management of the IIPD and NASCO welcomed its first international vessel of the 2024 shipping season at the Port of Chicago. Known as a “Salty” in the maritime industry, the Wagenborg MV Beatrix was the first ship to arrive, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and carrying cargo for use at U.S. construction sites.

One of the IIPD’s main exports this year will be carbon-free – or “green” steel – made in the United States and shipped worldwide, impacting the global economy. Shippers will also notice some changes within the IIPD this year, including the replacement of warehouse lighting and the reconstruction of Butler Drive.
