U.S. Army Corps
With budgets shrinking and limited resources available for investing in our infrastructure, IRPT and its members work with federal agencies to maximize our river management services.
And while we applaud the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their performance, the economic impact of the River is at threat. A holistic long-term approach should be explored to ensure the longevity of the river transportation system so that capital investments can be made to public port properties, private terminal infrastructure, and so market development and new business activities can be performed.
IRPT asks Congress to address the immediate needs for channel maintenance and rehabilitation of the Locks and Dams; and explore a long-term solution to allow a scheduled, more predictable service to keep our rivers open to commercial navigation.
