USACE Bank Stabilization MM 249

**Update** The operation has been extended through December 20, 2023.

  1. The Captain of the Port New Orleans is issuing a safety advisory for the waters of the Lower Mississippi River from Mile Marker (MM) 248 Above Head of Passes (AHP) to MM 250 AHP. This advisory is needed to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' bank stabilization operations being conducted at MM 249 on the right descending bank. Construction efforts will involve multiple vessels and barges with anchors deployed encroaching into the navigational channel. The operation will be conducted from 8:00am – 4:00pm daily, beginning on December 5, 2023, through December 20, 2023.

A. A one-way traffic scheme will be implemented from MM 248 to MM 250, during the hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm daily. All equipment will be stowed out of the channel while not working and normal traffic schemes will be in effect. Mariners are urged to transit at slowest safe speed to minimize wake in the area.

B. Vessel tows transiting southbound during working hours should be no more than four (4) barges wide.

C. It is highly recommended that southbound tows five (5) barges or larger wide flank the bend at Arbroth, in the vicinity of MM 250, when transiting after working hours.

D. All vessels transiting in the area shall contact the M/V HARVEY SBISA via VHF Ch. 12, 16, or 13 to make passing arrangements. Alternatively, vessels may contact Micah Bishop at 985-373-3296.
