Vessel Traffic Service Lower Mississippi River: Restrictions 5 Day Outlook Nov.8, 2022
Tuesday, November 8
- Pipeline Removal Operations @ MM 189.5: UPDATE: For the remainder of the closures the hours of closure will also be 1900-1000.
The following requirements are in place: All Downbound traffic shall check-in with VTS at MM 205 via land line at (504) 365-2512. All Upbound traffic shall check in with VTS at Sunshine bridge on VHF 5A. VTS LMR will still monitor VHF Ch. 5A for the duration of the closure and conduct regular check-ins for 81 Mile Point Area on Ch. 5A. When the river is closed, the VTS Closure operator will maintain the southbound/northbound queue list and monitor VHF 67 to ensure traffic is making safe passing arrangements. When the river re-opens, the VTS Closure operator will work with the VTS 81-mile point operator to de-conflict traffic, and then contact vessels via phone or VHF radio to clear the southbound and northbound queues. Tows (>20 barges) should be mindful of limited safe mooring areas South of the I-10 bridge during closure periods. - Subaqueous Stone Placement MM 11.5 to 20.1 AHP LDB
The M/V MISS BARBARA ANN, will be placing subaqueous stone along the Left Descending Bank (LDB) of the Mississippi River from approximate Mile 11.5 to Mile 20.1 AHP. The Contractor will work 7 days a week, 10 hours a day, during daylight hours, and the plant will include a Spud Barge with hydraulic backhoe. An office barge and various material barges will be on-site, staged along the river at this location. During nighttime hours, the Contractor will be staged along the LDB out of the Channel and can be contacted on VHF Marine Channels 16 and 67.

No work performed at this time, equipment remains on scene awaiting next supply of rocks. When working they will be working 7 days a week, during daylight hours only, with various office, deck, hydraulic, and material barges staged at this location. All ships are requested to contact the M/V MILA KATE on VHF 7/67 or at 504-495-1478 30 min prior to arrival. Job is waiting on rocks to be delivered. 30 min arrival notice is not required until more rocks arrive.
